MFF NUBIAN DAIRY GOATS
On the Michael Family Farm, we enjoy the company of pure-bred Nubian dairy goats, registered with the American Dairy Goat Association (ADGA).
Our goats are beautiful–as beautiful as we’ve seen anywhere. They are very friendly and hand-milked on our farm. Goats produce rich milk that makes the most delicious cheeses–and is a natural breast milk replacement for babies. We are regularly contacted by midwives and mothers for a share of our goats’ milk.
DIET & MILKING
The core of our goats’ diet is whole corn (energy) grown right here. To that we add soybean meal (protein) and sunflower seeds (fat, protein) for pregnant and lactating goats, and we serve them all they want while milking. We provide them with access to an alfalfa-mix hay and pasture which includes brush for them to eat as they please. They have access all day to fresh, clean well water and spend their days outside in the fresh air.
We leave mothers with their kids for the first two weeks after birth, taking no milk at all from them. Once we see that 2-week old kids are growing and happy, we separate them from their mothers at night and milk the mothers around 9am. Then, the mothers spend the day with their kids and we do not milk again in the evening. We generally take 1/2 gallon from each goat each morning and leave the rest for the kids. There’s no milk-replacement powder, processed feed, etc., found among our dairy goats.
FOR SALE
We have two beautiful, pure-bred and ADGA registered Nubian bucks for sale. These were born in February 2012 and have been raised on their mother’s milk (not formula). We are selling them because we’re bringing a new buck into our herd from another farm. Asking price (each) is $250. For more information, contact us at michaelfamilyfarm@gmail.com.
