This has been the wettest winter in many years, so we had to postpone our barn building until after my trip to Jamaica in February. Today, the roofing was completed (not pictured) and the stalls started.
In the end, the project will cost us around $4500 for a 30×30′ barn with four 11×10′ stalls–with the option of forming 4 additional stalls whenever needed. I designed the barn and it was built by just two men–my 60 yr. old father and I. I didn’t keep track of our time because we worked when we could around our other work.
It turns out that a man just around the block owns a sawmill and cuts his own lumber for sale. Had we known that, we could have built the barn for closer to $2,500. We bought (80) 2″x6″x12′ boards from him–all the wood needed fo buliding the stalls–for only $160.00. Can’t beat that.
Entire project will be finished by Friday, March 19th.
