We enjoyed a visit from three of the brothers from the new Missionaries of the Poor mission being started here in Monroe. They are close friends and requested a visit to get a little break from their work and study. We were happy to have them for dinner and some time outdoors. As we walked along a trail and talked, Bro. Rodel (the superior) laughed and said, “This is like a monastery!”.
That is the ultimate compliment for us–especially from a brother who has lived in monasteries in three different countries–because our goal has been to create a farm that is like a monastery–not unkept and worried about sales, but tranquil and sacred, content with the products for their own sake. The family life does not have to be disorderly and full of cares. It can be…like a monastery.
