One-Tenth of the Price

Flooring installed.

This month we renovated our kitchen and had to install new flooring.  We shopped around for standard wood flooring, had some estimates done, etc.. The materials to floor the kitchen (400 sqft) would run around $2800, or $7 per sq. ft.

We refused to go the modern route and talked to a friend with a sawmill.  We had him cut us 1″x8″ pine boards and we built the floor ourselves.  It isn’t as smooth as a new floor, but you can see it looks fine.  The big difference:  the whole project cost ys $300.  That’s  75 CENTS per quare foot…about one tenth of the price.

Flooring after sanding, staining and varnishing.
